lLANDRINDOD HIGH SCHOOL COUNCIL 2006

What is the school council?

The school council is made up of 22 pupils, 11 male and 11 female, who have either been elected by their year group or choosen by their head of year.The school council meet every month and discuss issues which they feal as a concern and believe something should be done. They are a link between the pupils and the head teacher as well as the governers. The school council give the pupils a voice, a chance to say what they think.Issues are presented to the head teacher and governers who decide if they think it will be a benefit them and the pupils.

THE LINK TEACHER FOR THE SCHOOL CONCIL IS MRS MORGANS. THE LINK TEACHER PLAYS VITAL AND CRUCIAL ROLE. THEY SUPPORT THE SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM AND HAVE THE RESPECT OF THE PUPILS AND OTHER MEMBERS OF STAFF AND SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

The school council needs to strike a balance between:-
  • doing things
  • asking for things
  • raising awareness

What is the role of the school councillor?
 
The school councillor has the duty to report back to the year in which they represent, take part in school council meetings, represent the views of the group they represent.

Who listens to students?
 
School governors, parents and the local education authority do not actually work in the school so they are not around all the time to hear what students have to say. However the school council may want to take issues up with them about the area of education they are responsible for.
